Scarlet Witch is a fictional superhero showing up in American comic books distributed by Marvel Comics. The character was made by essayist Stan Lee and craftsman Jack Kirby, first showing up in The X-Men #4 (March 1964) in the Silver Age of Comic Books. She is first depicted as a supervillain alongside her twin sibling Quicksilver as an establishing individual from the Brotherhood of Mutants. In many portrayals she is depicted as a freak, an individual from a fictional subspecies of people brought into the world with superhuman capacities. Scarlet Witch has capacities to change reality in unspecified ways and is a ground-breaking sorceress. Scarlet Witch is later depicted as an ordinary individual from the Avengers superhuman group. She likewise turns into the spouse of individual hero and partner Vision, with whom she has two children, Thomas and William.

The character’s in-universe backstory and parentage has been changed more than once. Delineated during the 1970s as the offspring of brilliant age hero Whizzer, a retcon during the 1980s uncovered Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver to be the obscure posterity of supervillain Magneto. Destined to Magneto’s alienated spouse in Transia, Scarlet Witch and her sibling are left under the watchful eye of their receptive Romani guardians and she is raised as Wanda Maximoff (later alluded to as Wanda Frank while the Whizzer was viewed as her dad). In another retcon during the 2010s, it is uncovered that Quicksilver and she are not freaks but rather were captured and utilized as subjects of hereditary experimentation by the High Evolutionary, at that point deceived to trust Magneto was their dad.
Alongside featuring in two self-titled restricted arrangement of her own, the character shows up in energized movies, TV arrangement, arcade and computer games just as other Marvel-related stock. Scarlet Witch has been depicted by Elizabeth Olsen in the movies Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2012, she was the second most elevated positioned female character (at #12) on IGN’s rundown of the “Best 50 Avengers.”
