The Red Skull (Johann Schmidt) is a fictional supervillain showing up in American comic books distributed by Marvel Comics. The character is typically depicted as the most outstanding adversary of the hero Captain America. Portrayed as a Nazi specialist, the character was made by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, and first appeared in Captain America Comics #7 (October 1941).

His character is depicted by Scott Paulin in the 1990 direct-to-video movie Captain America, and after that by Hugo Weaving in the 2011 movie Captain America: The First Avenger and by Ross Marquand in the 2018 movie Avengers: Infinity War, the last two both set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Red Skull was positioned number 21 on Wizard magazine’s Top 100 Greatest Villains Ever list and positioned as IGN’s 14th Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time.
